Final race of the year and Kankakee and it's the one everyone's been looking forward to; a $2k-to-win special. John turned a 17.786 in time trials which made him sixth quickest. The time put him on the inside of row two in the first heat.

John jumps into third place and has a hard time making a move forward as the track seemed to favor the high groove. John gets on Shannon Shutter's bumper many times throughout the race, but was unable to make a move around. he finished the heat race in third place behind Shannon Shutter and Jay Hamilton.

For the feature, John lined up on the inside of row six. John slid into tenth place where he would stay most of the race. He got as high as eigth place after moving past Greg Pearson and Mike Cavanaugh, but a flat tire snuck up on him causing him to be lapped by race leader Kevin Lenzen. Fortunately, a yellow came out on lap 33 and John was able to go back into the pits to change the tire. In the last 18 laps, John is able to work back into the top ten finishing 7th.
