John began the season long quest for the points championship last night at Kankakee and from the start, he was in control. The night started with a six lap dash conisisting of last year's top six finishers in points. John started on the front row and led all six laps with teammate Kevin Lenzen coming in second followed by Jay Hamilton, Billy Wicker and Jeff Momper. Heat race action saw John once again take the checkers after a mid race pass and some great driving to get through traffic. By winning his heat, John started on the front row of the feature right next to his cousin Shannon Shutter and right in front of his teammate Lenzen. John jumped out to an early lead and looked to be in control until he got a little too high in turns one and two and ended up going over the brim into the safety barricade near the track entrance. John jumped back into action at the rear of the field with a damaged race car and managed to pull out a ninth place finish. Not the way the 05 Team wanted to start the '02 season, but there were a lot of positives for John and the 05 Team. If tonight was any indication, John is going to be tough to beat this year.

The Street Stocks at Farmer City drew a strong count of 33 cars and John had the same problems as last week as he broke again in the heat racet. A late race spin-out in the Consi by a car running in front out of him gave John the chance to slid up into the top five and transfer to the feature. With a little patience and some good driving, John again worked his way into the top ten and finished 7th in the feature.

The Official JBG 05 Racing Website is now On-line. John has already started the season with a fourth place finish in Farmer City last Friday night. He broke in his heat race and had to qualify through the consi. A little luck and some great driving got John in the feature and he worked his way up to fourth in a tough field of cars on opening night!
